The peace deal in Doha: What is agreed upon to end ”Afghan War”

The senior officials of the United States of America and the Afghan Taliban gathered in Doha (Qatar) to sign the historical peace deal  between the USA and the Taliban.

The ceremony started on 5:54 PM and agreement  was presented on the table containing that the US will withdraw its troops from Afghanistan to end the infamous  18 years old ‘’Afghan War.’’

What is the deal about?
  • An agreement that the Afghan soil would not be used by anyone against the United States and its allies by any Taliban group.
  • The provision about the time frame for withdrawal of the US troops from Afghanistan.
  • There will be political settlement in Afghanistan and the intra-Afghan negotiations will be initiated to settle the internal political matters of Afghanistan.
  • There will be complete ceasefire in Afghanistan.

US Secretary of State Mike pompeo

Addressing the peace deal with Taliban, the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said ‘’ if you remain committed, we are with you.’’ Adding that the peace is inevitable in Afghanistan and the region alike.

It was agreed upon between the United States and the Taliban leaders that the US will withdraw its forces complete in 14 months.

We have long history of hatred, conflicts, and enmity, the previous talks had been faltered, today’s agreement reflects true essence of our efforts for peace in Afghanistan,’’ said Mike Pompeo. He further sad that whenever Taliban wish for peace , they have will for the peace. They are peace seeing as we do.  Furthermore,  he also added that Afghan people deserve to live and they must be respected for their freedom of all kinds. He also referred to the Taliban that if they wished to negotiate with the Afghan government, the US will peacefully intermediate the negotiations  for political settlement.

 

Mullah Abdul Ghani Bardar thanks Pakistan for its role

He said that this peace agreement is good for Afghanistan and for the international community as well. He congratulated everyone sitting in the ceremony.

‘’We want a positive relationship with all, and are committed  and are bound by this peaceful agreement and want political settlement in Afghanistan’’, said Taliban Leader Mullah Abdul Ghani Bardar. He also thanked Pakistan, China, Russia, and other countries for their due role making this deal easier and done.

During the Peace Deal, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and the US senior diplomat Zalmay Khalilzad met earlier before signing the deal and exchanged their ideas about the deal. Zalmay Khalilzad lauded Pakistan’s efforts for bringing this peace deal on the table. Shah Mahmood Qureshi wished that there must be political settlement in Afghanistan so that this peace deal could be implements without being hesitated.
