Sugar inquiry report and Future of Jahangir Tareen in PTI
The much awaited Inquiry Report of Sugar price hike scandal has been made public by Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday evening which has turned the point in politics. There are many turning points yet to be taken place after this inquiry report is made public. Among other, the Prime minister’s close aide and all weather friend Jahangir Tareen has been found guilty of taking ill-legit benefit for his business being influential persons in the incumbent government of PTI.
Jahangir Tareen seemed unhappy with the attitude of Prime Minister Imran Khan and his cabinet as there was an exchange of hot words occurred between Tareen and PTI spokesperson Shahbaz Gill after Shehbaz Gill tweeted that JT was removed from Agriculture Task Force.
According to sources, after the mini-report was made public in April, Imran Khan and Jahangir Tareen had short meeting in which Jahangir Tareen tried to convince Imran Khan about the matter and then Jahangir Tareen alleged Azam Khan, the principle Secretary of Pm Imran Khan that he misguided Imran Khan about him.
Response of Jahangir Tareen on Sugar Inquiry Commission Report
PTI leader Jahangir Tareen said Thursday he was shocked at the false allegations leveled against him in the sugar inquiry report which was released today after approval from Prime Minister Imran Khan.
According to the report: “Audit Team of JDW Sugar Mills found some additional information about ‘SATTA’ from interviews as well as forensic analysis of brokers of Punjab.”
I am shocked at the kind of false allegations levelled against me. I have always run a clean business. All Pakistan knows I always pay full price to my growers. I DO NOT maintain 2 sets of Books. I pay all my taxes diligently. I will answer every allegation and be vindicated IA.

“During his interview with the Team, broker Mr. Aslam stated that during the month of March 2020, he has executed forward trades of around 11,135 trucks amounting to Rs. 10,292,219,000 with the JDW Company and Ittehad Sugar Mills,” it read.
While discussing the report’s findings in a media briefing, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Accountability Mirza Shahzad Akbar identified the mills owned by Shehbaz Sharif’s family, Jahangir, Khusro Bakhtiar’s brother and Moonis Elahi and revealed that six major sugar mill groups were acting as “cartels”.
He said that the company owned by Shehbaz Sharif’s family engaged in “double reporting”. In 2017-18, the company raked in additional profits of Rs1.3bn and in 2018-19, they earned Rs780 million.
Future of Jahangir Tareen
It is of no doubt that the political career of Jahangir Tareen has already been barred by the Supreme Court verdict in the illegal benami transactions while he was minister for commerce in Musharraf’s cabinet in 2004. However he was still an influential member of PTI and held many important meeting in the PM house as well. However, the recent reports has made him a liability for Imran Khan and PTI rather than a credit for the same.
