The government of Pakistan has decided to slash the mobile termination rates (MTRs) from 0.90/mint to 0.70/mint for the cellular companies. This will ultimately incentive the mobile phone companies operating in Pakistan to reduce the  rates of off-net calls from  all networks.

MTRs basically play  an inherent role in deciding the rates for the cellular calls for customers by the telecom companies.

Mobile Termination Rate is basically ax that is implied on the cellular companies for each call. If MTR is lower, the phone cal rates for all networks will also be reduced by the companies.

In a meeting among higher ups of PTA and telecom companies representatives, the government had also reviewed the report of  Cellular Mobile Operators (CMO)  if they charged the customers retail tariffs according to advertised rates.

Meanwhile, it was also reviewed by the PTA authorities that the call center call rates , helpline charges, balance reload charges, and other necessary charges  charged to customers were the same as advertised.

New packages announced by PTA due to corona virus

Earlier the day on March 27, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) had announced that all the telecom companies have been asked to facilitate the consumers and users of the  internet by lowering and introducing new rates  so that the consumers be facilitated working from home.

Update: In light of the #COVID2019 pandemic, new packages / offers have been launched by all telecom operators to facilitate people to stay and work from home.

Moreover, it is necessarily important to note that the government of Pakistan has announced closure of educational institutes  in the wake of corona virus(COVID-19). Therefore, the educational institutes have  also decided to initiate online system of education to avoid time lapse for the students. However, it is inevitable that every student can afford the heavy charges of internet packages and thus making the online system of education or working from home easier. Hence,  all the telecommunication companies have been asked to facilitate the customers in this hard times facing the world.
