DG ISPR Major General Babar Iftikhar addresses nation on Pakistan Day
Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations Major General Babar Iftikhar, addressed a press conference in Rawalpindi today on March, 23. He wished the citizens Pakistan Resolution Day and apprised the public of Military efforts in the war against the pandemic.
DG ISPR said that the borders have been closed as a preventive measure but the actual barrier is between man and coronavirus which has yet to be taken care of. He further commented that we have never seen a danger like coronavirus in our lifetimes which has so far infected 882 people and left at least six people dead.
He advised the nation that COVID-19 can only be prevented through self-discipline and cooperation. Government needs cooperation and belief of people in the State to fight against the virus. He stated that government has asked Pakistan Army under Article 245 in aid of civil power. COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa has directed that all available soldiers and Army’s medical resources be deployed to combat the virus.
He further added that by the notification issued by the federal and provincial government the hospitals, shop selling food items, medical stores and food and medicine manufacturing industries only would remain open whereas all educational institutes shall remain closed. He urged people to follow the guidelines issued by the health authorities and the government.
General Qamar Javed Bajwa had decided to donate a month salary to aid the corona virus affectees while officers between the rank of Brigadier and Lt. General would donate 3-days’ worth of their salaries.
The Pak Army spokesperson wished the citizens Pakistan Day by remembering those who fought for the countries’ independence. He also promoted solidarity with the people of Kashmir who despite of facing atrocities committed by the Indian state are a true example of resilience.
Lastly, he assured that Pakistan Army is well aware of its responsibility and will bring all of its resources to use.
