Te chief justice of Pakistan, Justice Gulzar Ahmed Khan has taken suo moto notice on Friday over the inadequate facilities to  fight against coronavirus pandemic in the country.

According to details, this is the first Suo-moto notice sent to this government by the sitting chef justice of Supreme Court. The CJ Justice Gulzar Ahmed has sent notices to Attorney General  Khaled Jawed Khan, Health secretary, and interior minister Aijaz Shah to respond the matter.

The chief justice of Pakistan has asked the  incumbent government what measures  and steps have been taken so far in order to contain the novel coronavirus in the country.

It is noteworthy that the  five-member larger bench will hear the case starting from April 13 on Monday.

The  five-member  larger bench comprises of chief justice, Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, Justice Amin Ahmed, and Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel.

The suo-moto notice is important in many aspects. Firstly,  Chef Justice Gulzar Ahmed is popularly known for the crime cases in the country, however, he is seemed as disinterested in intervening the  government functions despite the constitution gives right to the chief justice of Pakistan to ask government about the availability of basic necessities for people in the country. The suo-moto notice has generated  debate among the higher ups in government as this is the first time that the incumbent government will face any civilian matter in the court of law.

The same full bench members heard the case pertaining to release of  under-trial prisoners to avoid coronavirus in Pakistan. The bench gave verdict against the petition.

Secondly, the incumbent government has performed poorly amidst the coronavirus outbreak. The prime minister Imran Khan has addressed the nation three times after the outbreak of the virus, but he could not decide any unambiguous and clear policy to contain the coronavirus. Therefore, the government seems week in his response to the  to the respectable court.

Thirdly, as the country is fighting against coronavirus and the people are suffering from their basic needs and unavailability of food, and basic supplies, the Federal Investigation Agency presented its report pertaining to sugar crisis happened two months ago. The report  held PTI stalwart Jahangeer Khan Tareen, and important ally of PTI government minister for economic affairs Khusro Bakhtiyar as the major beneficiary of the sugar crisis. The government  seems lingering for its stand against corruption as its own party leaders and ministers are involved in mega corruption.

Therefore,  the Suo moto notice sent to government by the chef justice of Pakistan holds unique importance which will surely decide the  popularity of PTI government either way.
