Can only politicians be blamed for corona virus pandemic surge?
The moment seems anxious and the people too. But let me take you to before corona picture! People criticizing, all this is happening just because of inefficiency and incompetence of our politicians. Lack of direction, lack of policy and lack of will has put Pakistan on this menace. Oh! Take a sigh, well, that was then.
Who is responsible for the pandemic?
Right here! Every crisis provides opportunities for one to act. This is no different in case of Pakistan’s politicians. Sindh is on the wheel followed by Islamabad and other power corridors. Ever since corona virus got hold of Pakistan’s territory we have witnessed unexpected events from unexpected people. From prompt decisions by Sindh CM to launch of Ehsaas cash distribution program we found charismatic leaders. Guess what, those unexpected people are our own politicians. Let me list few names;
Murad Ali Shah, Usman Buzdar, Jam kamal Khan, Taimoor khan Jhagra, Dr Zafar Mirza, Asad Umer, And the list goes on.
Corona fear has made our politicians competent, efficient and decisive but at the same time it has badly exposed feckless and irresponsible behavior of our Junooni (Enthusiastic) People. What a turn around!
The second caliph of Islam himself cancelled his visit to a small town near Medina on learning of an epidemic there. He (the Caliph) referred to Holy prophet (PBUH) that The Messenger of ALLAH Muhammad (PBUH) excused sick persons from attending Friday prayers and he advised people to neither travel to nor from infected place in times of Plague (Sahih Bukhari: 5730).
Take for instance, governments in every Power corridor decided to impose lockdown, Junoonis showed no respect. Well for the second time governments urged religious scholars to help them out in matters of congregational prayers during this blissful month of Ramazan. Yet again, our people went on to offer Taraweeh in mosques despite our doctors’ continuous concerns about our health system’s vulnerability and the fact that this poses a greater risk of spread of virus. Wait! Don’t start building thought that I am on anti-Islam Agenda! Not at all.
Let me discuss some precedents, of which our people and our so-called religious scholars are unaware.
Now then! Instead the religious scholars inform the people about these precedents they themselves announced to hold congregational prayers during Ramazan. What a nation we have! And we were to become Asian tigers with these kinds of mind-sets. Pity!
Same was the case in Karachi’s one of well-known areas. People were out in huge numbers, standing shoulder to shoulder and throwing precautionary measures into trash bin. Hence proved the problems are not always politicians but people too.
Arrogance and ignorance are the fatal flaws. And this arrogance and ignorance of our people can have deleterious effects for this country. This behavior needs to be changed otherwise be prepared for the consequences. Now is the time for our leaders to use their state-machinery against those irresponsible citizens who dared to defy the law/order. Don’t ask questions for the answer are obvious, i.e. ACT NOW.
